Commissions and Consortiums


Mischa Zupko

The Kenari Quartet is thrilled to be leading a consortium of ensembles commissioning Mischa Zupko for a new work for saxophone quartet.  The world premiere performance of this work will be given by the Kenari Quartet at the 2018 North American Saxophone Alliance National Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Ex Machina by Marc Mellits
In 2016, the Kenari Quartet joined a consortium lead by Project Fusion to commission Marc Mellits to compose a work for saxophone quartet.  Mellits' work entitled Ex Machina, is a collection of seven movements, each inspired by one of the seven saxophone quartets that joined the consortium.
Three Images by Joel Love
Joel Love's Three Images for Saxophone Octet was received with abundant enthusiasm after its premiere in 2016.  The Kenari Quartet and Barkada Quartet joined forces to commission this work, and we are thrilled to see and hear of its continued popularity!  Click here for a video of the premiere performance.

In 2016, Corey Dundee and the Kenari Quartet were selected by Chamber Music America as recipients of a generous grant from the Classical Commissioning Program.  Kenari Quartet gave the world premiere of the... of my... are an... at Bryant Park in New York City in August of 2016.  This prestigious award was made possible by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and the Chamber Music America Endowment Fund.  Click here to hear the Kenari Quartet perform this work.
In memoriam by Joel Love
Joel Love's immensely powerful In memoriam has quickly become a standard in the genre's repertoire.  In 2014, the Kenari Quartet led a consortium to commission Joel Love to write a new work for saxophone quartet, and the world premiere was given by the Kenari Quartet in 2015 at the Fresno City College.  Click here to see a performance of the Kenari Quartet given at the 2016 M-Prize Grand Prize Gala Concert.
